#249 is correct, however i didn’t use – sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts
in terminal (admin account)

Assuming that you don’t have a password — Step 7….I had a very similar issue to you. When enterig sudo dscacheutil -flushcache it always came up with a warning and asked me for a password….Funny thing is, i had no passwords (only had one for the root account)….. If this is the case, open photoshop and enter this number 1325-0465-4684-3792-9574-8287

It worked for me!.

I run Mac OS x 10.6.7 and i used sudo dscacheutil -flushcache for exactly the purpose of activating an adobe program. it all worked fine, but now i can’t connect to the internet at all. I am connected with the router but i can’t access the internet. Anyone know what my problem could be? (i am writing from another computer)

I have CS4 Master Suite which works on a Leopard Power Mac G5. I can’t transfer the files from the old computer to the new Imac I just purchased. It keeps thinking the serial number is invalid. I can’t find the Directory Utility as described above. I would love to get this working on my new computer. Thanks

Do any of these instructions in #249 change if using Snow Leopard? Because I followed them exactly and it didnt work. Couldnt get past entering my password.

I cannot save the hosts document. Have I done anything wrong? I did enable root user but I suppose I don’t really understand:

Choose a password for the root account – (there is one admin account already, is this the one? or do I create another one?)

4. Logout of your admin account. (is this to log out of my account as admin?)

5. Login to the root account. Select ‘Other’ in the Login Window. The name of the account is root (lowercase). (there is no option to choose other as I am the only account holder)

Ok. Ok. Ok. Please unravel this for me. The instruction in #8 & #9 clearly states to make sure the hosts are “pasted _between_ “255.255.255.255 broadcasthost” and “::1 localhost” If I take that as I understand it my hosts file looks like this:
——————————————–
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
>PASTE HOST INFO HERE <<<<<<<< ——————————————–

That IS NOT *BETWEEN*, that is AT THE **END**!!! I mean I'm going spare here – what on earth, EVEN THE PICTURE DOESN"T MATCH THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!! 600 comments and not one person has pointed this out and even people are agreeing (Bloody hell look at #588, he repeats the F*KN error!!!!!).
Please tell me it's me that's psycho here, please, please.

I really found SO HELPFUL your Method.
Many comments on this blog, but I just want to say I followed the 2nd method. By codes and the Terminal, not by Little Snitch.
